Lessons Learned: Leading From The Middle in the COVID-19 Pandemic (60 min)
In a year of change, teachers look to their leaders for answers; similar to how students look to teachers for answers in the classroom. Those with effective leadership are experts at identifying their own leadership style and lead with intent by fostering relationships, demonstrating empathy, and modelling best practices. This workshop will explore strategies on how to foster relationships with staff and teachers during trying times. NP. I will be sharing my experience with technology leadership in the workshop, particularly on how I explored and identified my own leadership style. Participants will be able to explore and identify different leadership styles, in addition to discussions for them to share their experiences. I will also provide resources that I have found supportive of my own leadership journey.

Mindfulness Meets Virtual Learning: Creating Community Using Online Tools
Looking for an authentic way to incorporate mindfulness with your students online? 21st-century learners spend more time online than ever before, so it's vital for educators to create a virtual space the fosters community building and mindfulness. Teaching children how to set goals with vision boards is an important life skill that allows students to see not only what they want to achieve this school year, but also what they want in their futures.
In this workshop, teachers will learn how to use vision boards in their teaching, as well as create their own (no prep needed)! There will also be some mindfulness breathing activities that you can use with your learners both online and in the classroom.

The Art of Teaching Middle School Mathematics with Equity (90 min)
Teaching mathematics has always been challenging, for many reasons: student disengagement, student and teacher fear of mathematics, the "math wars", and on and on. Today, as educators, we must add to this list. A new challenge has arrived -- the challenge of reaching ALL students equitably, and with cultural responsiveness and awareness of student social and emotional learning. In this session, we will explore how to rethink our mathematics teaching to meet these new challenges and look at creative ways of reimagining mathematics instruction and assessment. Not to fear. It isn't really that difficult.

Course Conferencing: Co-designing Assessment with Intermediate/Secondary Students (90 min)
"Grades are something that teachers give out". "My mark is based on how well other students do the assignments". Tired of hearing these myths from students? Frustrated with students that are focused on marks instead of learning? Or worried that your students see mistakes as failures instead of successful steps in learning? In this workshop we will discuss how teacher-student course conferencing and co-designing assessment-as-learning-tools with students, can shift the focus away from marks towards deeper learning, empower students to focus on their own learning path, and scaffold students to make explicit connections to learning goals, overall expectations, achievement chart categories, and goal-setting. Taking on the role of students, teachers will practice answering questions that help lead to co-designed conferencing tools. Teachers will then debrief how the process worked for them. Afterward, we will discuss the way the process has worked in my courses and answer questions.

Digital tools for the science classroom (60 min)
Teaching science requires hands-on experiments. With the shift between hybrid and remote learning, the approach towards experiments has to be reimagined in order to assess students equitably and authentically. In this session, I'll be going over some of the tools that have been helpful for me as a science teacher to use and were meaningful for my students so that they didn't experience learning loss.

Teaching With Twine: A Cross Curricular Tech Tool (Grade 7-12) (60 min)
Twine is a free online tool for telling digital, non-linear, interactive stories. With technology having been thrust to the forefront of the educational landscape, it is incumbent upon teachers to embrace these new tools and learn how to effectively employ them within their pedagogy. Twine is one such technology that can offer educator’s a new means of engaging, collaborating, and assessing their students especially in the contexts of online, blended, and in-person learning.
In this session, we will approach Twine from a beginner’s stance. There is absolutely no prior experience needed, and no expectation that participants be versed in coding aspects or English Language Arts. We will investigate the key definitions required to understand Twine's value, explore how it can be used in a cross-curricular context, and evaluate how assessment can be factored in. The presenter will also provide lesson plan examples of Twine being used in an ELA classroom, and encourage participants to begin experimentation with the Twine software. By the end of the session, participants will have learned the basics of the software, and feel inspired to try it with their students.

Putting Your Students at the Centre of your LMS (examples from Higher Education) (60 min)
The need for a student-centric design for your course page has never been so apparent as it was this past year, where almost all courses were conducted in a fully online mode and face-to-face interaction was non-existent or minimal. I have taken my own experiences as a student in a fully online program, my years of teaching almost 20 different courses ranging from small to large, from in-person to fully online, and ongoing student feedback to ensure that the design of my LMS page is easily navigated and accessible to all.

Assessing Student Work Created with Technology (60 min)
This session presents the assessment tools used in my Project Management Course where the class, converted into a company, carry out IT Project solutions for non-profit local community organizations. Students identify clients and their needs, propose solutions, and implement project management methodologies to create a product or service as agreed upon with the client. The greatest challenge for the teacher throughout this entire process is how to assess the work done by the group and more importantly for each individual student. Furthermore, how can it be done that is fair to all – those that do too much and those that do not do enough.
The assessment tools used in this course can be easily adapted and applied to any grade level and to any group project setting (whether it involves technology or not), or any individual work that involves technology as an integral part of the product - especially when the teacher is not fully versed in that technology.

Building Community with Piassa and Discord (60 min)
Research has shown that interpersonal interactions are vital to the overall student learning experience. While the interactions that occur between the student and teacher are important, the interactions that occur between students should not be forgotten or diminished in their importance. Students naturally create a sense of community within their everyday lives, both in-person and online. Utilizing technologies, both familiar and unfamiliar to students, can help to promote a sense of student community and self-advocacy within our classrooms. This workshop will explore how two community-building online platforms, Piazza and Discord, might be incorporated into the secondary or higher education classrooms to foster a sense of student community, both for in-person or online teaching.
