Lessons Learned: Leading From The Middle in the COVID-19 Pandemic (60 min)
In a year of change, teachers look to their leaders for answers; similar to how students look to teachers for answers in the classroom. Those with effective leadership are experts at identifying their own leadership style and lead with intent by fostering relationships, demonstrating empathy, and modelling best practices. This workshop will explore strategies on how to foster relationships with staff and teachers during trying times. NP. I will be sharing my experience with technology leadership in the workshop, particularly on how I explored and identified my own leadership style. Participants will be able to explore and identify different leadership styles, in addition to discussions for them to share their experiences. I will also provide resources that I have found supportive of my own leadership journey.

The Art of Teaching Middle School Mathematics with Equity (90 min)
Teaching mathematics has always been challenging, for many reasons: student disengagement, student and teacher fear of mathematics, the "math wars", and on and on. Today, as educators, we must add to this list. A new challenge has arrived -- the challenge of reaching ALL students equitably, and with cultural responsiveness and awareness of student social and emotional learning. In this session, we will explore how to rethink our mathematics teaching to meet these new challenges and look at creative ways of reimagining mathematics instruction and assessment. Not to fear. It isn't really that difficult.

Mindfulness Meets Virtual Learning: Creating Community Using Online Tools
Looking for an authentic way to incorporate mindfulness with your students online? 21st-century learners spend more time online than ever before, so it's vital for educators to create a virtual space the fosters community building and mindfulness. Teaching children how to set goals with vision boards is an important life skill that allows students to see not only what they want to achieve this school year, but also what they want in their futures.
In this workshop, teachers will learn how to use vision boards in their teaching, as well as create their own (no prep needed)! There will also be some mindfulness breathing activities that you can use with your learners both online and in the classroom.

Teaching With Twine: A Cross Curricular Tech Tool (Grade 7-12) (60 min)
Twine is a free online tool for telling digital, non-linear, interactive stories. With technology having been thrust to the forefront of the educational landscape, it is incumbent upon teachers to embrace these new tools and learn how to effectively employ them within their pedagogy. Twine is one such technology that can offer educator’s a new means of engaging, collaborating, and assessing their students especially in the contexts of online, blended, and in-person learning.
In this session, we will approach Twine from a beginner’s stance. There is absolutely no prior experience needed, and no expectation that participants be versed in coding aspects or English Language Arts. We will investigate the key definitions required to understand Twine's value, explore how it can be used in a cross-curricular context, and evaluate how assessment can be factored in. The presenter will also provide lesson plan examples of Twine being used in an ELA classroom, and encourage participants to begin experimentation with the Twine software. By the end of the session, participants will have learned the basics of the software, and feel inspired to try it with their students.

Build a Vibe: Creating a virtual safe space for a vibrant learning community (60 min)
Feel like you are in an episode of Black Mirror? Tired of talking to static profile photos on class videoconferences? This session will demonstrate how to maximize the potential of online tools (potentially already in your toolbelt!) to facilitate a more vibrant and cohesive student community online. These pedagogical strategies rely simply on the intentional design of learning-focused peer interactions in online and hybrid learning conditions that encourage your students to feel comfortable, more connected, and more involved in the virtual classroom. In this session, two in-service secondary science educators will model how they use a variety of simple strategies in their virtual classrooms to build classroom rapport and create a safe learning environment. You will also have an opportunity to share your existing strategies, and collaborate with your peers on how to maximize the tools and strategies you already have, in order to optimize your virtual learning space for your specific learners.

Assessing Student Work Created with Technology (90 min)
This session presents the assessment tools used in my Project Management Course where the class, converted into a company, carry out IT Project solutions for non-profit local community organizations. Students identify clients and their needs, propose solutions, and implement project management methodologies to create a product or service as agreed upon with the client. The greatest challenge for the teacher throughout this entire process is how to assess the work done by the group and more importantly for each individual student. Furthermore, how can it be done that is fair to all – those that do too much and those that do not do enough.
The assessment tools used in this course can be easily adapted and applied to any grade level and to any group project setting (whether it involves technology or not), or any individual work that involves technology as an integral part of the product - especially when the teacher is not fully versed in that technology.

Podcasting in the Classroom: Where Student Voice and Community Come Together (90 min)
Session cancelled due to presenter illness
More than 8 million Canadian adults (27% of the 18+ population) listen to podcasts at least once a month. Podcasts allow us to learn about topics, listen to stories and engage with content and a community in a convenient and entertaining way. Podcasting in the classroom then becomes a way to consolidate, research, develop and entertain. It is student-led, leverages technology, and allows for multiple entry points. When students learn to listen for information, problem solve, and develop a way to share their learning, passions, and thoughts with others, we allow for curriculum to come alive, to reflect those in the classroom, and allow the world in a way that few others mediums can. Podcasting in the classroom is the window to the outside world we so desperately needed during our virtual schooling journey.

Engaging Student Learning in Mathematics - Improving Achievement Gaps using iPads and free access math apps (90 min)
The presentation will focus on the work which was completed from a Teacher Leadership Learning Project (TLLP) completed in 2018. The presentation will cover the resource book created from the project learning which provides teachers and other educators with step-by-step instructions to use math apps in the classroom as direct, guided, and independent learning. Teachers will be able to access the apps via iPad, chrome book, and computer. A second section will focus on 3-Part lesson plans which were created from the learning in this project using these apps (lesson plans cover primary and junior), as well as lesson plans to teach CODE and some other math strands. All lesson plans were created using the 2020 Ontario Math Curriculum.
